Enjoy highlights from the OutTakes interview with Kassie dePaiva and Eric Martsolf (Eve and Brady, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) at the Day of DAYS Universal CityWalk fan event, November 11th, 2017.

KASSIE, HOW SURPRISED WERE YOU WHEN EVE RETURNED TO SALEM AS MRS. DEIMOS KIRIAKIS?
Kassie: Eric’s character was more shocked than my character. But I was thrilled! Are you kidding? I get to have my cake and eat it too. Eve didn’t set out to be a bad person or anything. She genuinely was a woman in need and Deimos was offering services; and he happened to die. And…ha ha….she’s rich!
Eric: Whenever you want some honesty, you can put the microphone in my face now…
OKAY, ERIC, HOW SURPRISED WERE YOU TO SEE BRADY BLACKMAIL NICOLE INTO BREAKING ERIC’S HEART?
Eric: This is great. This is soap opera. This is what it is. It’s a convoluted triangle that has all of these different teams on it. And when you line them all up together, it’s absolute chaos. You don’t know who to root for.
Kassie: My fans are really wanting me to give it to Brady. I think that they think that you’re being really mean to Eve. I mean I have two fans out there…and they are very upset!
Eric: My fans think that you’re being ridiculous to me. I just had my heart ripped up. The Donovan sisters have done nothing but destroy my life so far!
Kassie: Boo hoo!
Eric: Eve took my company. Theresa took my heart and left me with my kid. I’ve had to babysit Tate for the last nine months! So obviously Kassie and I are having a great time working together.
Kassie: If you like the animosity between us, keep tuning in because it’s getting good!
Eric: The roller coaster is leaving the track. It gets nuts. It gets crazy.
Kassie: And I couldn’t ask for a better ping pong player. Eric’s awesome. He’s a great player, a great actor and an Emmy award winning actor too. So I’m really so honored.
Eric: And I’d like to return the compliment. This girl’s a tall drink of water. She’s talented. She delivers a line like it’s nobody’s business; and she’s funny as hell. She’s got all of the qualities that Eve Donovan should have. You’re going to love the portrayal of her character the second time around.
Kassie: It’s fun. We’re telling a story and trying to throw in as much color and splash as we can yet keep it as real as possible. Our characters have both gone through a lot…a lot of loss. So we will meet on that level and we are both fighting for the same; thing and that is our stake in the claim of Titan and Basic Black. So you’re on an adventure!
SO ERIC, YOU HAVE YOUR OWN DAYS OF OUR LIVES EMOJI. HAVE YOU ACTUALLY USED IT?
Eric: I have. I sent it to my wife the other day. She said, “That’s your face.” And I’m like, “Yeah, that’s the point.” She said, “Wow, you look really serious.” And I’m like, “Well, yeah, I’m a serious guy.” And my wife knows I’m not. I’m not Brady. I’m not this guy in the emoji. I’m a goofball. So it’s kind of funny to me because I look at that; and I’m like that’s definitely Brady and not Eric.

Kassie: Isn’t it funny? I’ve worked with my husband; and my husband would sometimes ask, when I would have some sexy lingerie on in a scene, “Why don’t you ever bring that home?” And I’d say, “Honey, you don’t pay me enough!” At home, are you romantic?
Eric: Not as romantic as Brady is. I can’t whisk my wife away on a private jet to Paris. I’d be like, “Hey, you want to get on American Airlines and go to wine country?”
Kassie: Well, if you don’t want your children to go to school or eat…
Eric: That’s the thing. I have to buy Cap’n Crunch and chicken at Costco. That’s not romantic. But it is romantic when I go, “Hey, babe, I’m at Costco. Is there anything I need? Can I pick up anything for you?” Can you see Brady doing that for Theresa?
Kassie: But you’ve done daytime and you’ve played out real romance. Does it ever come into your life?
Eric: I learn some things here and there. These writers know what they’re doing. They’ve been bringing 52 years of romanticism.
Kassie: And fantasy
Eric: They know what they’re doing so we can learn from these romantic creatures and cater after them.
Kassie: And the only thing you really learn is that after those romantic moments, something bad’s going to happen. So you’d better watch out!
SPEAKING OF YOUR HUSBAND, KASSIE, HAVE YOU BEEN WATCHING JAMES DEPAIVA ON “GENERAL HOSPITAL”?
Kassie: I have been watching; and I’m kind of waiting to see what he’s going to do with his character. I think he feels the same way. We’re both fortunate. That’s how we met doing soaps. And it’s nice to see him on camera. It’s nice truly not to have to work with him. And I mean that in a good way. Because it’s nice to be a fan and watch him without me having to play in that sandbox.
KASSIE, WHAT DO YOU LIKE THE MOST ABOUT PLAYING EVE?
Kassie: I like her brokenness and I like the fact that she pulls upon all the sad broken places in her to find strength to carry on because I think that’s what we do in human nature. She’s very human. And she’s full of bravado. And she’s more broken than she puts on or that she thinks. It’s fun.
A VERY DIFFERENT CHARACTER FROM BLAIR ON “ONE LIFE TO LIVE”…
Kassie: They’re very different, but they wear the same bra size and shoe size.
Eric: You play screwed up women very well apparently, don’t you?
Kassie: I do!
Eric: I just realized how similar our freakin characters are! Hearing you say that, that would absolutely be my response about Brady as well. I love that Brady’s only riding on three wheels; and the guy is broken. He’s messed up. And to see somebody who’s searching for perfection when he’s so messed up, it’s interesting television to watch. He’s a layered character. He’s not perfect. And I love that about him.
Kassie: I think Ron Carlivati [headwriter of DAYS] knows that. These characters, whether its romantic or business or personal or familial, it will be elements of that because there is a fight and a desperation within the heart of both of these two characters to present themselves in a way that might not really be truthful to their basic nature.
